Returning to school

Returning to school

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the 2021 school year at Armidale City Public School. We look forward to all students in Years 1-6 returning to school tomorrow morning.

As COVID-19 is still of concern, we are asking that parents of students in Years 1 – 6 continue to only enter the school via the front entrance and not enter the playgrounds or buildings, other than to go to the front office.  All visitors to the school need to check-in using the QR code as well as sign an External Visitors Form and sign the visitor book at the front office.

Parents of our new Kindergarten students will be able to walk their children to the ‘train’ for their Best Start assessment after checking-in at the front office from tomorrow to Tuesday.  They will also be able to walk their children to the ‘train’ on Wednesday morning, ensuring that a physical distance of 1.5m is maintained.  From Wednesday afternoon, parents are asked to wait outside the Mann Street fence for Kindergarten children as we did during Kindergarten Orientation.

Tomorrow morning, our students in Years 1 – 6 will go to the playground they were in last year.  Teachers will escort them to the hall to learn who their new teacher will be.  We ask that students have a water bottle for use at school to limit the use of bubblers.  Children can refill their water bottles at school.

To ensure that students are at the correct bus line or know where they will be picked up at the end of the day tomorrow, we ask that parents provide written advice – whether written on their hand, a note or a tag on their bag.  This will help us to help you.

We remind parents of the need to use the pedestrian crossings and to not walk between buses or call children across the road.  Human and vehicle traffic is hectic at the start of the school year.  It is much safer for parents to collect children along Brown Street or Mann Street.  There are limited areas outside of bus zones on Dangar and Faulkner Streets where parents can park safely.  Students on bicycles or scooters are asked to exit school via Mann Street or Brown Street to avoid the bus line areas.

If your child is unwell, we ask that they stay at home until free of symptoms. If there are even the mildest of cold or flu symptoms, children will need to be COVID tested and a negative result needs to be provided to the school prior to their return.  Parents are asked to contact the school as soon as possible via phone or through the Absentee Form on School Stream.

It is important that adults maintain a physical distance of 1.5m, even when outside the school fence and especially when inside the front office and foyer area.  Hand sanitiser is available at two locations at the front of the school.  If you are unwell, please do not enter the school grounds or office.

We are looking forward to seeing students in the morning and working with families throughout 2021.

Ms Nay
